Time Offset

Shift all subtitles in a single operation to fix a global synchronization issue.

Sometimes an imported subtitle file is globally out of sync with the video -- off by one second, for example, because the file was created against a different edit. Rather than adjusting each subtitle individually, time offset applies a uniform shift across the entire project.

How to use it

  1. Click the clock icon in the toolbar (it lights up in color when an offset is in progress)
  2. Adjust the value with the stepper: from -3,600 s to +3,600 s, in 0.1 s increments
  3. Click Apply to shift all subtitles

The offset is applied to the in and out points of every subtitle. Timecodes are clamped to the video duration -- no subtitle will be shifted before 0 or past the end.

Before applying the offset, a snapshot of the project is automatically created. If something goes wrong, you can always undo with Cmd + Z or restore the snapshot.

Typical use cases

  • Modified edit -- the editor added or removed a few seconds at the beginning of the film
  • Audio offset -- the audio track is out of sync with the video
  • Import from another tool -- the starting timecode differs between the two applications
