Work Modes
Prompter Mode
Automatic subtitle list scrolling synchronized with video playback.
Prompter mode automatically scrolls the subtitle list in sync with playback. The currently playing subtitle stays centered on screen -- like a teleprompter, but for subtitle proofreading.
How to activate it
The Prompter button in the toolbar (magnifying glass icon, or Shift + Cmd + F) toggles automatic scrolling on and off.
Behavior in detail
During playback:
- The list scrolls smoothly to keep the active subtitle centered
- The transition between two subtitles is fluid and progressive
- During a jump (fast forward, click on the timeline), repositioning is instant
When paused:
- The active subtitle remains highlighted
- The list stops scrolling but stays positioned on the last subtitle read
Without the prompter:
- The active subtitle is still highlighted in the list
- The list does not scroll automatically -- manual navigation only
Use cases
The prompter is particularly useful for:
- Final proofreading -- checking synchronization under real conditions, with text and video scrolling together
- Third-party review -- a reviewer can follow the text without interacting with the interface
- Spotting errors -- catching typos or awkward phrasing at reading speed
Prompter mode and edit mode are independent. You can play with the prompter active and edit mode disabled, for a clean interface focused on proofreading.
